If you were a color of nail polish, what color would you be? Why does it seem that everyone else besides BB Couture think we only wear pinks and reds? Or super pale colors of again pinks and reds and nudes? Yes Kim is having issues again, lol do read on!

I was wondering about a question that I received the other day. Someone asked me if they should be able to wear yellow nail polish? Why not? BUT… if you go by what the fashion gurus say, the answer would be based on your skin tone. Boring!! Not only that, they leave a whole range of super neat trendy nail polish colors out.
These so called fashion gurus base the nail polish color you should be wearing on your skin tone, what you wear in general, what you do for a living or what you are wearing it for. Now I only agree on one part of that. Say if you were going to a black tie event , wearing green nail polish isn’t really the answer unless it goes with the outfit you might be wearing.
So sure sometimes its what you are wearing it for will determine the color of nail polish you should be wearing.
Now who came up with this rule that you only wear dark nail polish during the wintertime, pale colors in spring and brights in the summertime? What happens if you wanted to wear dark nail polish all year round? Does that mean you are out of fashion?
Contest over..
Also in case you didn’t know, here is the color of nail polish the so called fashion police say you should be wearing..
Nail polish colors based on your skin tone:
Pale shades of nail polish?
Fair skin tone: Try cool, blue-based pale pinks and light berries. Stay away from lavender and yellow-based shades.
Medium to Olive skin tone: Try white-pinks and gold-flecked sheers. Avoid anything with a bluish undertone.
Dark skin tone: Try bright pinks or beige – and yellow-toned sheers. Avoid any color that looks chalky against your skin.
Love wearing Dark nail polishes? ( Great anytime of year!)
Fair skin tone: Try cool deep berries, blood red and plums. Avoid browns and bright purples.
Medium to Olive skin tone: Try rusty browns, orange-based reds and deep maroons. You really need to stay away from berries.
Dark skin tone: Try rich browns, creams and deep plums. Avoid no colors, because everything looks awesome against your skin tone!
OK I got issues with this!! What about shades of greens? Glitters? ME not wear a deep rich brown? Purples of all shades with glitter?? Oh come on Obsession looks amazing against my skin as does Little Deuce Coupe which happens to be OMG a YELLOW!!
Now its question time, and I would really love to hear what you think about this:
1 ~ Do you buy nail polishes because of the name?
2~ Do you wear colors that are very out going because your personality is very out going? (ME!)
3~Are there colors you just won’t wear even if you were following those so called rules by fashion gurus?
Please leave me a comment on your thoughts about this, I really want to hear what you got to say. BTW I am giving away three bottles of BB Couture nail polish. The winner gets a bottle of BB Couture in the color they say they are.

1.Well sometimes the name of the polish is so fab that you just want it….But for my the most important is how it looks.
2. Yeessss
3. Nope the only color I haven’t tried is yellow, have a hard time seeing me in yellow nails…...
I think its depends on the shade of yellow.. I look terrible in pale yellow but can wear a bright sunshine yellow.. Thanks for stopping by and answering my questions!
Kim
1. Sometimes. Or I refuse to buy nail polish because of the name. I never buy Piggy Polish. Piggy? WTH!
2. I am boring, but I wear out going colors. Except neons, lordy I look bad in neons.
3. According to your notes, as a fair-skinned person I should not wear lavender, yellow (I’m wearing it now!), browns (I own a lot of browns) and bright purple. I like lavender and do wear it, I’m not sure if I have a bright purple yet.
I didn’t know there were rules, I have just worn what I liked. In certain business situations, I pay attention to wearing something that doesn’t scream, however.
I have heard of Piggy Polish, like you its something about the name.. piggies?? And they use pink pigs on their label!
See?? Another person who wears what ever they like, forget the rules..
Now I will admit there are some dark nail polish colors I can’t wear.. and I LOVE wearing dark nail polish.. And again going by rules
OMG never wear deep rich browns.. and and why??
Thanks for stopping by and answering my questions.. Hope you sign up for a chance at three bottles of BB Couture nail polish in the
color you say you are.. lol
1. No – but it enhances the experience, so to speak, if it has a good name.
2. No – I’m the opposite, actually! I’m extremely introverted, but wear almost exclusively bright colours, glitters and holos
3. Yes – it seems there’s always an exception to those rules! I wear bright purple all the time!
The rule I go by is: If I wouldn’t wear a t-shirt or buy a car in a certain colour, I don’t wear it on my nails.
I so agree with that last statement of yours! If I won’t wear it in a t-shirt (there are some colors that just make me look ghostly), and cars
well I won’t own a white car that is for sure!! Gray polish doesn’t look good on me but I would buy a car that color.. lol
Thanks for stopping by!
1. Nope, Half the time I don’t even look at the name on the bottle. If I like the color, I wear it.
2.I wear colors based on my mood, Or what I know I’m going to be wearing. When I worked at Toys R Us, I knew I would always be wearing Red, so I always got various shades or bright or dark reds and pinks. Now a days, I wear whatever will amuse my son.
3. I’ve never worn a yellow, and I’m not the biggest fan of greens, though I’ve found a few greens in the past that I liked. Oranges and neons are other colors I generally stay away from unless I have a good reason (outfit).
I would be a deep, shimmery blue! It’s just such a cool and universally interesting color.
But honestly, I think I like all colors of polish, there are a few that I just can’t wear though because being a guy, not all colors that look good on women will work for me.
I love red nail polish! Not for me though. Pink is cool too, but again, not for me.
I am very encouraged to see some nail polish companies actually featuring colors with men in mind. BB Coutour is one that has been leading the trend, and the near-blacks, dark greens, platinums and blues are great for men who want to dress up their nails (feet mostly) a bit.
Answers to your questions:
1) Not always, though some companies just seem to have great colors! I focus more on the color and texture (shimmer, creme, metallic). I love some of the crazy names that OPI comes up with!
2) Oh yeah! A bright orange shimmer, a deep green or blue metallic or even a colored holo are some of my ‘bolder’ colors.
3) As you can probebly tell, I don’t follow the ‘rules’. I don’t wear colors that are more commonly considered to be feminine like red and pink, though I have found a few purples that worked for me. Deep maroon is another one that I really like, than many might not think of as a good color for a guy. Mostly I stick to black and near-blacks, silvers, deeper shades of browns, greens and blues.
My sister of SolSisters says what is missing from a guy’s collection would be a military blue, like what you would wear in the Air Force dressed blues! I thought that would be totally awesome! So yeah you know I told Cindy over at BB Couture about it!
I buy the color of polish that I like based on the web blog, web site; not necessary just the name as I have bought polish from different brands.
If I like a nail polish that is swatched on their web blog, I might buy that one.
The answers to your questions:
1 ~ Do you buy nail polishes because of the name? Not always but sometimes yes, because of the quality of the name and color
2~ Do you wear colors that are very out going because your personality is very out going? (ME!) yes, I like bold, bright colors, purples, blues, browns, light greens, dark burgundy shades
3~Are there colors you just won’t wear even if you were following those so called rules by fashion gurus? As was mentioned earlier, it’s a shame too, I link pink but only wore it once for a Breast Cancer event, LOL Some reds or pastel colors because I don’t like the color, gender does play a significant role in my choices, even though it should not be the case, if a guy can wear nail color on his toes, he should be able to wear any color he chooses
Thanks Mc Huggs!! Long time no hear from!! I rarely wear Pink myself.. I am pretty much game for all colors..
I don’t think you really understood what you were talking about in this, sorry.
What they said (for the most part) was completely true.
I mean you can wear whatever you want if you like it, it really doesn’t matter, but there are colors that are much more suited for you than others, mainly depending on your skin tone n color, what you wear a lot, and where ur wearing it to or what for.
If you have dark skin, many people think you look good in any color, which personally i think the opposite, so you can wear colors like that, or blue based plums and purples seem to be the most commonly flatterable shades.
If you have fair skin than bright colors are difficult to pull off but you can.
One thing i know is true is your skin tone base. If you’re yellow toned, than you would have a much harder time wearing blue than people who are pink or blue toned. I personally am yellow toned and i know that i can not wear blue nail polish, and i have a very difficult time wearing most pinks and darks(black, dark green, dark purple/blue, etc)
because they stand out so much and make me look ghostly or odd.
I think i look good in some reds and golds, and silver
those are the colors i usually wear
silver is like my go to color, its easy and one coat of it is fast and good enough if im in a hurry.
i like to put glitter over like, all mine, lol, so thats one thing i do quite often.
so to answer the two questions i didnt already:
1. I don’t buy them because of the name. if it has a cool name it makes me laugh but it doesn’t sway me at all. except once, i happened to also love the color, but it was called ‘zombie’ and so i loved the name as well and i have it now hah
and
2. im not outgoing, so no i dont wear outgoing colors
but sometimes they are sort of.
im not sure how to answer that simply
so ill just explain
im shy at first but then im not, and so when i wear nailpolish i tend to wear less noticeable colors in the sense that they arent neon orange or bright blue, (also in part because i dislike my hands and dont like the way painted nails look on them), but i will wear like silver, which is bold but in a different sense, and then ill top it with two different types of glitter polishes, so theyre silver disco balls basically.
so i suppose that answers if you understood me correctly.
my favorite color/glitter combinations are: (dont have names for most sorry)
1. silver polish (metal-ica?) by wet n wild; micro silverish glitter polish by the twilight nailpolish collection thing (disco darling?); (if you want more) silver glitter polish by wet n wild
also the twilight one is semimatte so if you wear that on top use a clear top coat as well to give it that amazing iridescent finish ( i got a million compliments when i wore this combo )2. the gold polish by wet n wild in the short round bottle with the black cap thing (shield); red polish by essie (forever young)
-this is cool because the sparklyish gold is underneath the plain red and with just one red coat you can see the sparkliness of the gold polish under the red and it makes the color a goldish sparkly blood red, its awesome
i have more but ive got to do work so i suppose ill post more later?
Wow you sure do know a lot more about it than I do. Thanks so very much for your comments. I love hearing what others have to say about the blog posts that I do and I don’t mind
at all if someone corrects me. We all learn something new right?
