I thought this post would be kinda of fun to do. Its interesting tips I have come across that thought would be fun to share:
1~1920 was the year Henry Ford first used nitrocellulose lacquer to paint cars with. I wonder if he came up with colors because black is well boring!!
2~Contrary to dish washing soap ads, soaking your nails in dishwasher soap will ruin them, not help them! Too much water isn’t good for your nails, just makes them weaker, so wear gloves with doing any work that might damage your nails.
3~Running your fingernails over a bar of soap to will help keep dirt out from under them while wearing gloves to garden with.
4~92% of Americans at one time or another bit their nails. 25% would be thought of as nail biters.. there is even a 1 percent of people who bite their toenails!! I still trying to picture that, can you?
5~Dark nail polish can yellow your nails if that is all you wear, or are wearing cheap brands all the time. Wearing a good base coat can help prevent yellowing of your nails. If that does happen you can soak your nails in lemon juice, dental teeth cleansers or try white vinegar.
6~The newest idea for fingernails is Gel Nails. Or Gel Nail polish. Doesn’t chip. Down side is you have to soak your nails every week or so in acetone to remove it. For those who love to change their nail polish every day or every couple of days, Gel Nail Polish wouldn’t be a good idea for you.
Fun facts about fingernails from history:
It was believed that the nail polish was created around 3000BC in China.
Gold Protectors were used by Chinese Empresses to protect their fingernails
If you were not of royal blood, you were not allow to paint your nails. Wearing fingernail polish was a sign that you didn’t have to work for a living.
In Cleopatra’s time fingernails of royally were glided and set with precious stones.
In Victoria’s era it was a sin to paint your nails.. In fact lady’s of the evening wore nail polish to show off their profession…
Just thought it would be fun to share this little bit of history about about fingernails and nail polish!

Unfortunately, my 6 year old son is a toenail biter. sigh Pretty gross, akshually.
Wow I am sorry to hear that, I have heard that is something they can grow out of. I do hope he does..
Soo interesting Kim! I love the bit about Cleopatra’s time, she’s my favorite lady, I’m fascinated with her so I’m picturing her with gilded nails and stones.
Great post, but the Soap and gardening tip confuses me? If you are wearing gloves, why use the soap to keep dirt out?
I don’t know about you, I do happen to garden. I grow roses and I am forever digging in the dirt around my roses or weeding stuff like that. Well I get my gloves all wet and muddy when I do.. so yes if I didn’t run my nails before hand over a bar of soap I would indeed get dirt under them. Before I did this post about it, I did in fact did work with my roses and found I was getting dirt under them. When I tried this little trick I didn’t, so for me its a great idea. I guess it comes to how dirty do your hands get when you garden?
Cleopatra was a real trend-setter. Did you know she also invented the first tampon.
I had no idea!! I know she was famous for her milk baths as well. One of the best ways to stay young looking is to take baths filled with milk, so many products even today will have milk in them.
