4151601 s 300x192 Top Coats ~ Just What are They? Do you Really Need One?
Every wondered why Top Coats are applied over your nail polish when you have a manicure done? Or have you been listening to your friends rave about their favorite quick dry top coats? It’s a great question so I looked it up.
Some may confuse base coats with top coats. They are not the same thing, so if you have one that says it can be both? Well the answer to that is not really. A base coat is just that a base for your nail polish before you apply it. You apply base coat to your natural nails then apply your nail polish then your top coat. Lot of work yes but it does help with the lifetime of your manicure.

What is a top coat?
Top coats act as a protective barrier to seal your nail polish color and help your nail polish from early chipping or flaking. Now there are a few different types that you may of heard of. For starters there is more than one type depending on what you want. You have your quick-dry, heat-dry, high-shine, matte finish, air-dry, chip-resistant, non-yellowing, UV protective, even drops and more. They range in price from about $3.95 to over $20.00.

I pretty much use CND Air Dry all the time, Kim! It’s all a matter of body chemistry and that seems to work best with mine. It helps keep my polish in place and levels out any bumpiness, too!
My SIL recently brought home the Seche Ultra-V to try out – with the little hand held UV lamp – and that does work great too, like iron really.

I currently use Seche Vite but I’ve heard Nubar Diamont works great.

I love China Glaze’s Fast Forward Top Coat.

I also have been using Sally Hansen’s Complete Manicure in Clear’d for Takeoff as a base coat and top coat since it makes nails extra shiny.

I like extra shiny over matte look any day! Thanks for shopping by!

I use two – first Out The Door and then Seche Vite over it. When I use only Seche Vite I have problems with the polish pulling, and putting another top coat between it and the color works wonders!

Out The Door? That one I don’t know, or I don’t think I do. Yeah pulling or cracking can be a problem when you apply top coats. Depending on who makes it. I have heard lots of great reviews about Seche Vite but I have not personally tried it yet. Two huh? How long does your mani last?

    Seche is GOD!
