It’s funny how something will come about. I happen to be a avid book reader for starters. Getting to do this book review all happen because I am on the alltop.com newsletter list. My blog is listed under Beauty at http://beauty.alltop.com/ which who’s co-founder happens to be the Guy Kawasaki!!
Then one day I got this email that I am sure was send out to 1000’s on this newsletter list that Guy Kawasaki was looking for reviewers for his brand new book he has coming out called Enchantment. All you had to do was hit reply with your mailing address. So I thought what the hey, like he is going to pick a nobody like me to do a review?? (there was a reason and it’s on page 62 in his book) So I did. I also totally forgotten I had cause like I said, what chance do I have of getting to do a review?
Not long after that I get a personal email from Guy asking that if you didn’t get your book by Tuesday to let him know and he would for sure track it down. WHAT???? I was one of the ones that got a book to do a review on!! SWEET! But I had to ask Guy why me? Why pick a nobody like me to do a book review for you?
This was what I got in my email:
Because I believe in helping everybody without judgment about who is “big potatoes” and “small potatoes.” You may be the person who makes the book “tip.” I’m willing to invest that in you! ~ Guy
Now you know why I am doing this review, read on to read my review of Enchantment by Guy Kawasaki due out for sale March 2011
My first question was what is Enchantment? Why write a book about it? Who should read it and why?
Guy defines the meaning ‘enchantment as the process of delighting people with a product, service, organization, or idea. The outcome of enchantment is voluntary and long-lasting support that is mutually beneficial.” Page xix of the Introduction in his book Enchantment
Remember at the beginning of this post I talk about there was a reason why I got his book?
Well here it is: You have no idea if you send out your product if that unknown blogger now doesn’t become the next biggest well-known blogger on the net. What was very interesting was the way Guy talks about the influentials and the nobodies and who is really better for your product. The answer is on Page 63 and I’m glad I’m a nobody when you look at in the way he does in the book.
Back it up a page and on page 62 which really gave me food for thought as well as ammo on why I do what I do when I send Overall Beauty Minerals out to really unknown bloggers is this, you got to embrace the nobodies. My hubby asked me why I do it. Now I got a great way of explaining why I do what I do.. I’m embracing the nobodies without really understanding why I would I just do. After reading Guy’s book and see how he looks at it gave me a way to put into words what I am doing. You got to read the book to really truly understand why Enchantment is so important in the way you do things, the way you talk with people and the way you really live.

I happen to be a big believer in “Pay it Forward” a term I am sure you have all heard and even a major movie came out about it. But do you know what it really means? In the book Enchantment, Guy puts in words we all can understand. “Invoking reciprocity is a very powerful way to make enchantment last. How would you do it? Give with Joy, Give early, Give often and generously, give unexpectedly” Page 102 – 103..

There is a funny story about how Sir Richard Branson polished Guy’s shoes as a way to get him to leave United Airlines and Fly Virgin..

Should you buy this book? You bet your bottom dollar you should! I’m not saying it because I got a copy for free, I’m saying it because of the message the book gives you. For all those of us who feel they are nobodies. Keep doing what you are doing..
Take the time to read Enchantment to see to how you can use it to improve how you do what you do, even if you are your own boss and work from home. There is something for everyone from those who work for someone to those who wish to launch their own product someday. Guy Kawasaki has written a book for the rest of us.. WOOT!
