I will be honest the first time I tried to use the Nume 19 Mm (3/4″) Clipless Tourmaline Ceramic Black Curling Iron + free gloveAs my son would put it a “major failure!” So I just walked away from the curling wand and let it sit for a few days while I was cranky about how I couldn’t make it work for me. I had watched I don’t know like 6 different videos about how to use it on youtube. I let NuMe know what had happen and Mindy send this over in email:Mindy: Oh how to work with my curling wand. I like the hold the wand vertical and wrap my hair around the wand with the glove (prevents burning) on your hand. Hold the hair in place for 30 seconds and release. It did take me a few practice times to get it right. I’ve seen some videos where people will pin the curls until they are cooled down to get a cleaner look.

Now on to my review for their curling wand. I had also received in my package their Thermal Defense and Finishing Serum. Both which I used while I tested out their curling wand. Thermal Defense is used on dry hair to protected it as you use what ever curling item or flat iron. It protects your hair from getting over-heated I guess. The Finishing Serum is like a sticky like serum that goes on your hair before you blow-dry to help cut the time down on your blow drying, and it does work.
So a few nights ago I had nothing to so I decided I was going to try working with curling wand again, Having never used one before, and tried already once I wasn’t too sure if I was going to make it work at all. A friend of mine told me she has one and uses it all the time to curl her daughters hair. She also told me that when she first started using it she burned her hand like 10 times cause she was too macho to use the glove that came with hers. She learn that there is a very good reason to wear the glove.. One came with my curling wand and I use didn’t feel like burning my hand either. I think one of the reasons I was having such a issue was all the videos were done by people who are right-handed so what I needed to do was backwards cause I am a leftie.
(This is going to be fun for the photos before I’m doing before and after photos!! It was just a shame I did on a night I wasn’t going anywhere.. Look at the after photos to see why!)
Here is a photo of my below the shoulder length hair all straight.
Also here is another view of my hair after I pulled part of it up so I could curl the underside first then start on the top: This gives you a good idea of what I was trying to do.
Now my hair is super straight, and never holds a curl without lots of hair spray. So that was one of my questions about using a curling wand versus a curling iron, will my hair keep the curl for longer than about 3 hours without hair spray. (the answer is yes, in fact the next day I still had major curls after sleeping on it, I’m impressed!)
What I did was I curled one inch parts of my hair for a count of ten then held my hair for another count of ten so it cooled off a little but wow did it curl! I found that if I left the curls to completely cool before combing it out with a comb for waves or I used a pick so I could have really curly hair! I felt like Goldilocks when I was done! Photo my hair after working finally getting the hang of it.I’m going to do a little pro and con on the curling wand because it does have a learning curve that goes with it:
Pro: if hold your hair for a count of ten you find that you will get major curls that have a long lasting time frame to them. Even after sleeping on my hair I still have curls the next day.
Con: Learning curve, you are going to want to watch a few videos before even trying it out
Pro: If you got a daughter willing to sit still long enough, you got curls for two days
Con: if you got bad shoulders, can’t lift your arms over your head for a long period of time, curling wand is not for you.
Con: it takes longer than it would if you would be working with a curling iron
Pro: if you need something that will give you major curl for a long period of time, like you are getting married or some other type of special event then a curling wand is great for this.
Would I use the curling wand again? Maybe now that I got the hang of it, I would use it I was going somewhere special and had time to really do my hair right. (I been using i!)
You can get your NuMe Curling Iron
Now on Amazon! Wow I found a lot of them I thought would be really cool to try! They have some that are a bit more affordable over what the cost this one was.
The curling wand price depends on the size, I have the 19mm which is about $200.00 Right was on sale for $175.00 at that time.
Update: It is available on Amazon for 55% off the price! Nume 19 Mm (3/4″) Clipless Tourmaline Ceramic Black Curling Iron + free glove
For those who know how to work with a clipless curling iron now that it has dropped in price now would be time to get one. But only if you know what you are doing. This review was done in 2011. It is now 2014 and I still have mine and using it! Bad Shoulders and all.
