I never thought I would do this, get dermal fillers to soften the lines around my mouth. Never thought I was vain but after seeing what Juvederm XC can do, wow I’m impressed! (don’t laugh at my before and after photos, I was told not to smile!)
It all started thanks to the PrettyCity/Allergan Event I went to. Link here to post about it. PrettyCity Event
For most of us over 35 years of age, beauty pretty much stops from being just caring for your skin to keep it young looking to up keep. It becomes harder to find skincare products to cover the skincare issues that come naturally with age. Such as sun damage, brown spots, lax skin, turkey neck, fine lines that stop being fine. There are so many skincare product choices from prestige brands created by doctors to drugstore brands. They are having the same thing in common they take time to work, and depending on your skin damage you may need more than a skincare program system may give you. Or you just want to look younger now, not six to nine months later; you want to change how you look now!
Tools such as Botox (been around for 20+ years) , Laser work (here is a Q&A post we did with Dr. Bernstein about Laser and how the work)
To dermal fillers (which is what Juvederm is) which can give us reliable immediate gratification within minutes.
Having for got a certificate to try Juvederm for the first time free I was surprised how fast it really does change how you look! Thanks to the Allergan Event sponsored event ( they are the company that makes Botox, Juvederm and Lassie) I’m sitting in the event taking notes looking at the photos thinking they have to be best choices that show how it works. (everyone is talking having a great time, the writer in me is taking notes) LOL
What I found out there was:
The difference between Juvederm and Juvederm XC is Juvederm XC has a pain killer in it called Lidocaine to help with any simple pain you may get. It really felt like it does when you get your blood drawn; it isn’t as painful as I thought it might be.
At the Allergan event they had a list of doctors who offer the products in my area. On recommendation of a young lady (Robin) at my table I went with
Shawna Chrisman, Acute Care Nurse Practitioner
It seems their kids go to school together. Shawna Chrisman also offers to come to you, but only after you have been to her office to take care of paperwork.
When I got to the office my paperwork was pretty much done because she had emailed to me before my appointment. I met this young lady that after chatting she answered any questions I had, put me at ease really fast. We talked over what I expected to happen, and what she felt would work. If any was left that would of gone in my upper lip fine lines but Shawna explained that was more for Botox because you keep using it. And it also is the most painful areas to get shots.
My Before Photo
She told me not to smile so you can see on the right side of my face the real issue for me. I had no idea what the difference a shot could make!
I got two shots worth of Juvederm XC Shawna explains that it’s better, if you have problems with pain this one is better for you. My biggest issue was a scar I must of got as a kid that I had no idea was there till I got older and lost weight.
It made the “Parentheses” or lines around your mouth and the “marionette lines” filled in. Those are the lines that make you look like you are always frowning, because the lines at the corners of your mouth drop down. You always have one side of your face that is a little worse than the other. That’s normal.
Was I surprised what happen oh yeah! Can I see why it’s one of the most common lunchtime treatments done? For sure! I did get some bruising mostly on one side. I got a really nice warm towel when she was done.
I asked how they can get in contact with Shawna Chrisman as well as a little more information about the shot itself:
Acute Care Nurse Practitioner
www.destinationaesthetics.com (coming soon!) <- wait for her site to go live and then contact her there “You can make appointments by email or phone or text. She will have the ability for patients to book online from a website soon. Shawna is hoping to go paperless in a matter of weeks. Everything will be done electronically. The number of syringes and type of syringe (Juvederm Ultra versus Juvederm Ultra Plus) depends on the patients and what they are trying to correct and their response to the prior treatment. My current hours are Tuesday afternoons and then Wednesday – Friday during normal business hours. I will come in on the weekends if requested upon my availability. I am currently not charging for traveling for a reasonably short distance, however, the concierge appointments may be off normal business hours. The cost of the Juvederm Ultra Plus XC is $600 for the first syringe with a small price break if a second is needed. The treatment will last anywhere from 6-12 months. Future treatments will hold longer.” If you ever want to find out if Juvederm, Botox or other fillers is for you, and in my area? Contact Shawna she is awesome!
