When was the last time you walked into a nail salon and didn’t like what you saw? Or when was the last time you walked in to your appt and made to feel like you were a treasured client? That can happen in the same salon or in different salons. It comes down to the woman or man doing your nails.
When you walk in, do you pick out your polish before your nails are done or wait to see what the nail specialist says is hot today? Have you a favorite nail specialist? These are just a few of the questions that came to my attention while at the Nail Pro Show.
What is the Nail Pro Show you ask? Well, its a amazing show of companies showing off what is new and hot in doing nails. What you need for your spa, what is new in caring for feet and nails. How to care for the whole person I even sat in on a class that was teaching manicure/beauty school students/ spa/and salon owners how to market themselves in this age of cut-rate nail shops.
What happen a few years ago nail salons started opening up more and more so the compeletion just strong and one came up with this idea of cutting the prices to bring in more customers. Nothing about better service just about getting bodies in the door. Then the higher end nail salons did something they should of never done, they lowered their prices. Did they have a choice? There will always be the types who want the most for the least amount of money and getting nails done is nothing different.
Twenty years ago a full set in Las Vegas cost me $65.00 for the only thing that was offered then, acrylics. A fill costed about $20.00 every two weeks if I wanted nail art it was per nail. Not a cheap habit to have at that time. Years have gone by and now that I am a distributor of nail products I am back wanting a full set down, with nail art and just having classy nails again. Now the days you can get a full set for $18.00 and fill for like $15.00. What is needed to do your nails didn’t go down in price in fact nail polish alone is high.
OPI the most famous brand that I have ever heard of is going for $9.00 at my favorite makeup store that I visit when I need something right away,
ULTRA. I can’t afford to offer my customers
OPI cause the wholeprice is not low enough.
AT this class I was sitting in, the wonderful instructor was talking about marketing yourself, offering ways to stand out and giving more in value of the work, that customers will be willing to pay higher prices and come back. Did you know that there is a gel for nails that comes in color now? If you are really crazy about one color you can have your nails down using gel have it in one color days you can get a full set for $18.00 and fill for like $15.00. What is needed to do your nails didn’t go down in price in fact nail polish alone is high.
Back at this class I was sitting in, the wonderful instructor was trying to talk about marketing yourself, offering new ways to stand out and giving more in value of the work> The instructor was getting asked so many questions that the class was over before she was half way through her booklet. She was also pushing a book she had wrote but funny thing is I could of answered most of the questions she was being asked. But question is are there customers that would be willing to pay higher prices and come back? I will be writing a article about that every subject once I talk to a few pros about it. I don’t know enough yet to answer it yet but I will.
Did you know that there is a gel for nails that comes in color now? If you are really crazy about one color you can have your nails down using gel have it in one color only. It doesn’t come off with acetone or things in that nature, it must be buffed off. With a little nail art you’re good to go, you will of course be going back to the same nail specialist because of those gel nails when they grow out will need a fill. But that would only be offer at a higher probably classer type of nail salon. I had never heard of that.
There are ladies who so good at nail art should be called nail artists in the way they do such fine work. The instructor when on talking about how that person(nail artist) doing nail art and best in the nail salon at it should be charging per nail, not per set. There is ways that a nail specialist can make $100,000 a year working only 3 days a week.
Have you ever thought of yourself as bread and butter for your nail specialist? If you are a type of customer who goes back to the same person, follows her when she moves to a new salon, you are thought of as her bread and butter and should be treated a bit better than any new customer that nail specialist gets.
While I was at the Nail Pro Show I saw what is called Natural Nails. In fact I have a
DVD about it, how it is done etc. If you look closely at your nails it has a natural smile to it and Natural Nails are a cover of some type that goes over your nails keeping them as natural as they can be and I guess if you have no nails and you want them, there is a way to do your nails so that smile shows and its perfect! You would not really know that they are not real if someone didn’t ask. They look that good!
I had got there in time for the free goodie bag that comes with enough stuff, that gives back to me in products what it cost me to be there. Parking downtown of a Sunday for this cause it was a special event was $12.00! I had not even walked in the door yet! I bought my ticket online so I saved $5.00 and I got the free goodie bag cause I was one of the first 5000 to be there.
I did come across a few companies who products I hopefully will be offering soon to you, my customers. I am talking wholesale terms right now with a couple of companies for sure and will let you all know as soon as I can when I will be to offer.
NO I am not going to tell you either! One has to do with feet and I am talking with the creater of this product!
If you do nails you must go to the next Nail Pro Show. Toma has a new slimline coming out for salons only, yeah I’m cool with that, and because its so new they were not ready for this show. But be sure to know that Toma will be there at the next one!I was able to buy a few toma nail polishes but they are colors not offered any longer by toma but the colors were so super cool I had to get them for myself! Yes! I am a nail polish junkie! I don’t own any
OPI colors cause I can’t get myself to pay their prices.
I am working with creative with trying to see what it takes to get it out of carpet. A booklet I am working on that I will be giving away to my customers on my email list only. But thats down the road a bit I am super testing things for that!
Was the Nail Pro Show worth it? Oh yes! I can’t wait to go to the next one, only I will need more money! I did get in my goodie bag a bottle of
OPI Avojuice its a 5.5 oz and we all know thats not cheap! Its in peach. If I offered it as a single giveaway would anyone be interested?
I learned a lot at the Nail Pro Show and to answer the questions at the beginning of this, yes I have walked into a Nail Salon and walked right back out cause the smell was overwhelming, like 10 perms being done at the same time is a closed room. That one nail shop made my eyes water just walking in the door. Have I felt like a treasured client yes! Have I felt like I was wasting their time just by the way they acted or talked around the shop in a language I didn’t know, ditto on that one too. Oh one more thing the instructor of the class told everyone to not gossip and to dress like the job they want not the job they have. Other words dress for success! In fact every question I asked at the beginning of this article I can answer yes to, now can you?
Watch for a article about nails and nail care. Do have a wonderful day!
