I got a really neat email last week from a gentleman over at http://www.tantowel.com
He asked me in the kindest words if I would be interested in trying their product and then
blogging about it. Me? wow what a idea. So I did some research on self-tanners. I am super fair
skinned and do not believe in baking in the sun to get that all over glow./ Or as Coco Chanel
once said : a suntan was a fashion accessory.
BTW the gentleman’s name is Buddy Rigotti and he is the webmaster and marketing assistant for
Tan Towel, Inc.
Not just a good idea any longer but we can’t help but want to look healthy right? That is
really what having a tan does, it helps you look healthier, more alive etc as long as you
are not using a self-tanner that turns you orange. Or visiting a tanning salon so much you could
be paying their rent.
I have been testing out the tan towels for over a week now and after I got the hang of it, they do
a great job in giving me the tan I want. I don’t tan because I burn, bright red burn! So years
ago I stopped trying to get that amazing tan everyone else got during the summer months. I
was pale before pale became a fashion statement. But it never stopped me from being kind of
envious of those who did tan. Now I know just how bad tanning in the sun can be, I know just
how not good tanning salons are, tanning beds, sun lamps what have you. All in the end those types of fake tanning can give you some type of cancer.
That was why self-tanners came about. Most started out turning you orange so not natural looking.
So after the years self-tanners have gotten better, they still tend to streak, and be messy. Not matter what
To me biggest the main problem with most self-tanners is the mess. I did try one once
and after making streaks going down one leg, I decided after that to just not bother.
Also pretty realize that I am NOT a tanning guru, I don’t use self-tanners and I mostly don’t
even know how. So for me to try tan towels? Well if you want a newbie trying your product I
was the right girl for the job.
Tan towels look like handiwipes. That was the first thing that came to mind when I saw them.

Image belongs to Tan Towel Inc,
They come in two different formulas: their classic formula is for fair to medium skin tones and their PLUS formula is for medium to dark skin tones (it gives a deeper/darker tan). They have two sizes, ones that you use for parts of your body and one you use for all your body. I started out with the smaller one using their classic formula.
First mistake right off the bat was I thought was I didn’t exfoliate my legs, opps. So the tan didn’t come out that well and I wasn’t sure why. So I emailed Buddy and ask him a few questions about tan towel and what did I do wrong. Btw he is a great guy very patience with me and my questions!
I got darker spots on my ankles because I don’t know any better about using self-tanners. He told me that to remove or lighten up the darker spots on my ankles was to go ahead and use the exfoliate that I normally use or try the one in the box he send me. I didn’t use theirs I used mine and wow not so dark areas. Some of the tips that Buddy offered me were:
1~Be sure you are tanning a clean dry body.
2~Its always good to exfoliate right before using the tan towel but its not necessary to achieve great results.
3~He also recommends that you do your ankles, knees, elbows, and hands at the end when the towel is the driest because these areas need less formula.
They do have on their blog some helpful self-tanning tips
Check those out at http://tantowel.org/blog/2008/09/top-ten-self-tanning-tips
I only have one issue with tan towel, and one alone you can’t tell if you have gone over an area or not. BUT you can’t go over a area too much either. Not bad huh only one issue with them.. wow lol
So if you feel you may of missed a spot then before the tan towel totally dries go back over all the areas you feel you might of missed. In other words, make double sure you have covered all areas and if you do some areas more than others, they won’t show up any darker.
I asked about the different sizes and how they are used. And what was the best way to use
them.
This is Buddy answer right out of our emails:
“The half body size towelette and fully body size towelette should have
the same amount of relative saturation. The full body towelettes are
designed to cover the entire body for an average sized person. You can’t
go over an area too much, so start with whatever part of the body you
want. We recommend a good place to start is your thighs and go down to
the ankles, but save the ankles for later. Then do arms, face, trunk and
back. Do the ankles, wrist, feet, and elbows last for best results.”
Also after you wait about 3 hours you might want to go back over the areas you did miss, I did that. For some reason one spot on my thigh I kept missing.
Ok great idea also after trying the whole body towel and not getting much of a tan on my upper body just my lower half I emailed Buddy again.
He said to try one area to I get the real hang of it then try more areas. When he started out he only did his face till he got the real hang of it before trying more areas of his body. I thought that was a great tip, personally I didn’t try my face I did my legs and arms only.
In the end after being after being called a real trooper which I thought was cute, I have to say I give a A+ to tan towel.
They are cheaper than going anywhere to get it done, easier to use then other self-tanners and they have wonderful customer service who don’t mind answering any questions you might have.
The cost of the Tan Towels can be found on their website at
www.tantowel.com. They sell a 10-pack of the half body classic for $21. I asked about shipping because I have wonderful customers all over the world. Who knows might like to try them right?
So Here you go about shipping.
“Shipping depends on the size of the order, zip code, and method (UPS vs USPS). In most cases, you can get the item shipped for about $6.00.” Overseas will be more ladies and gents and you need to make sure you want to pay the shipping costs before ordering.
They ship worldwide for the most part, but mostly to us here in US & Canada.
I asked if by some chance any of my readers who might be interested in purchasing tan towel if they had a coupon for you and here you are!
Use the code “nes0902″ at checkout for a 10% discount.
But It’s for a limited time only! Visit http://www.tantowel.com for more information.
Anyone who loves a great tan but doesn’t want to be bothered with tanning salons (cost) or messy self-tanners really should look into tan towels! They were fun to test out and I hope my review on tan towels at least gets you interested in trying them for yourself.
Please remember that they don’t have sunscreen in them and after you apply it you have wait
at least an hour or more before you can apply sunscreen or moisturizer. BUT they do offer
a moisturizer that you can order that works well with tan towel. I didn’t get to test it
so I don’t know anything more about them but that. You can visit their site for more information
about tan towels, and all the other cool products they offer. There are before and after pictures too!
