Simple Winter Pedicure Ideas

Just because its wintertime doesn’t mean you stop getting pedicures done. Your feet being locked up in tight boots all day simply need a well desired treat.
Here is a simple pedicure idea, that you can give yourself. It will also save you a little money as well!
All you need for your basic at home pedicure are:
Your basics, a towel, bristle nail brush, dish of soapy water, (not detergent, just use your shampoo or anybody wash),
two bowls big enough to put your feet in.

Here is a great set of everything you need if you don’t already have what you need.

tools of choice,
emery board,
nail clippers,
cuticle cream or clippers,
orange stick.
Creams, hand/body butter, cuticle oil, cuticle-remover cream. There really isn’t any need to paint your toes unless you want to. The idea here is to just treat your feet.

If you don’t have any bowls, check this simple tub out!

(Awesome idea if you have larger feet)

Don’t forget your favorite music player with headset and hot cocoa or your favorite drink of choice and a good book.

Here’s a fun idea!
Instead of using soapy water you can warm milk and add cocoa powder and cinnamon sticks to it to give your feet a bath of delight. You need to keep those calluses at bay so soaking your feet softens them and you can remove them using a natural pumice stone.

Tips on how to give a simple pedicure:
Start off by filling a large basin with warm water for a long foot soak. Add some rosewater or essential oils for a true deep relaxation as well as soften calluses and corns. The more cracked and calloused your feet, the longer they need to stay in.

  • Remove the any old polish from your nails. Clean under the toenail and then clip.
It’s best to use high quality clippers made for clipping toenails. To avoid ingrown nails, cut nail straight across, leaving about 1/8″ of length.
  • Make sure your nail doesn’t extend over the tip of your toe.
  • To create a soft square shape, file nail around the corners slightly using a emery board in one direction. Don’t use metal files, they’ll rip your nails if you’re not really careful. Basic emery boards are best for
smoothing away any tears or breaks.
  • Emery boards usually come with two sides, the fine-grade surface is for smoothing the nail edge, while the coarser surface is for shortening and shaping nails.

Rub cuticle remover to the base of each nail and rub it in. Leave on for a minute, then use an orange stick to gently push with a circular motion everywhere where skin meets the nail (including the sides). If you want to trim cuticles, do so carefully and sparingly with sterilized trimmers. You will want to do that ahead of time so that the sterilized trimmers are cool to the touch. It is just safer for your toes.

Using a skin file or loofah, remove dead skin from soles of feet, zeroing in on heels and balls of feet. Pumice stone also can remove calluses and dry spots. You’ll want to scrub the balls, bottoms and sides of your heels and around the toes.

Massage an exfoliating cream into the skin, rubbing it all the way up the calves. Rinse off, and dry feet thoroughly including between the toes and then apply a moisturizing lotion especially made for feet.

Re-hydrate cuticles by rubbing in a dab of cuticle oil. Wait 2 to 3 minutes.
To really soften your feet and give you that spa feel is to take towels and warm them in your microwave and lather your feet with your favorite body butter. Wrap your feet with the warm towels, not too hot mind you, and put them up. It will soften your callouses and give your feet a real treat.
Nothing like a warm feet and hot cocoa.
There you go, something you can do when you feel the need to treat your feet and you to some simple down time.
