Standing in the Rain – Poem by Kim Snyder

I watch through drops of rain roll down my face
As you walk away yet again
Why does it always seem to end this way?
I just stand there getting wet, as the clouds
Feel like they are crying along with me
Not caring how cold it feels
At least, I am hoping this time is the last time
I keep telling myself I won’t be taking you back
If I had only held my ground
Knowing
My heart would break into tiny pieces
Like watching glass shatter as it hits the ground around me
Never again – how does one pick up
One’s broken heart when it’s in so many tiny pieces?
I feel my pocket as it rings with your ringtone
Knowing it was you, this time I chose not to answer it
Going to change your ringtone I have for you
I must, if I am going to start moving on from you
Never again
I keep reminding myself, never again…
But how does one harden their heart?
Then it hits me so hard
knocking me to the knees
Not caring how wet and cold the ground is
Please, for me
This time, don’t look back…
I just can’t take another breakup with you…
I just sit there in the rain
Feeling like I could just melt into the ground
Realizing that this next time I will have to be strong enough
To tell you if you ever call again
There will be nothing you can say or do
That could put my broken heart back together again
We are never going to be we again
I stand up, walking away, I start to hear you call out my name
And then there is nothing but the rain hitting the surrounding ground around me.
