Did you know? Winston Churchill once said, “Success is stumbling from failure to failure with no loss of enthusiasm.” Great way to start this blog post, I think 😀
The problem is that it can be hard to find enthusiasm, especially when yours has taken a beating. Setbacks and disappointments have a way of breaking you down. We begin to doubt ourselves and lose sight of who we really are. Without trust, it is impossible to try, which guarantees failure.
Fortunately, we know one thing for sure: confidence can be regained, as every successful person knows.
So just what are the 7 things successful people know about how to regain confidence?
1- They remind themselves that they can do it
Successful people recognize that failure is normal. Getting there will not be without obstacles. The important thing when trying to regain confidence is to realize that success is still a possibility… or even a probability. This is where you remember your goal and visualize success again.
2- They walk away
There comes a time when a break is the best thing you can give yourself. Confidence falters when you feel stressed and overwhelmed. Doing a hobby you enjoy, or even just going for a walk or spending time with friends, goes a long way toward regaining a positive mindset when you’re feeling frustrated.
3- They review the past
Where have you had success before? Where have you failed? Everything that has happened before is a teaching moment. What do you already know about yourself from these events? Understanding “yesterday you” is where your ideas today come from. Confidence comes from using this knowledge well.
4- They forgive
Hating yourself for some mistake you made will get you nowhere and only destroys your confidence. Being able to let go and forgive the past is crucial to future success. Sometimes the hardest thing to ever do is to forgive one’s self of mistakes made in the past. Learning to let go is the best thing you can ever learn to do.
5- They control what they say
Self-talk can be particularly destructive to your confidence. How do you talk to yourself? Are you patient and understanding, or do you tend toward negativity? It’s really easy to bad talk yourself, but its not good for you to do so. Holding on to those mental humiliations will preserve your self-confidence. Using more positive statements will make you stronger.
6- They start again
The only sure way to fail is to do the same thing, in exactly the same way, when you already failed the first time. Instead of setting yourself up for failure and eradicating confidence, re-strategize. Ask yourself how you can do things differently this time.
7- They keep trying
Persistence pays off. If you fail and stop, you will always consider yourself a failure. It is the person who gets up and tries again, who gains confidence as they go.
In the end, the only way to regain your confidence is to intentionally work to earn it back. If you follow these tips, you’ll get there. Recognize that the process may sometimes be slow, but success truly is still within reach, even after a setback.
