Facing the Child Within – Poem by Kim Snyder

Facing the Child Within – Poem by Kim Snyder

The child within me cries,
Fearful, scared
I try to reach out to her
Just to tell her everything will be ok
The child within me cries,
Feeling the weight of the world
She sits in the back of my mind
She hides in the pit of my stomach
She runs within my legs
Where is she today, I wonder?
The child within me cries
Feeling no pain – but feeling all the pain
She sits in the back of my mind
Not wanting to talk right now
I try to go on with my life
Searching within my mind for clues of where she has gone
I know she is me
But it seems so long ago, I can almost not remember
The child with me cries
I feel tears falling down my cheeks
All that pain from so long ago, from when I was small
The child within me cries
She sits in the back of mind
She hides in the pit of my stomach
She no longer runs within my legs
I throw my arms up, wanting to just scream –
‘What do you want from me?’
I hear a voice so soft, I almost missed it
Face the fears – I hear
Face the pain…
Face yourself…
But most of all .. Forgive yourself
The child within me is quiet now
She is no longer easy to find
I faced all the tears
I faced all the fears
I finally faced all the pain
I finally let it all go
I finally found I could face the child within me
Hold her in my arms
As we finally become whole finally after all these years.

Sometimes something comes to me that I just start writing and letting go. I have written poetry all my life, I just never really starting sharing it. Till now, I will be adding more as time goes on.
