No matter how we look, size, shape, etc how we dress ourselves as we grow older should change and get updated way more often than we do. Clothes we wore when we were in our teens are so outdated once we grow older – BUT we see it all the time!
On the days we wake up, looking in the mirror, feeling like we look old, our first instinct is to go back to doing the same things we did in our youth. For some, that means dressing like we did years earlier – or trying to dress like younger men and women today. So not the thing to do!
That’s not a good look on a grown-up who is getting older. Someone over the age of 20+ should be changing how they dress, even more so when we are over the age of 50.Yet at the same time, you don’t want to dress looking like your grandmother.
Frumpy, comfortable clothes are something most people enjoy during relaxing moments at home (sweats and old band t-shirts anyone?) – and we even develop our favorites that we don’t get rid of (even when we should).
But it will help you look and feel younger if you get some help updating your wardrobe so that you knock off several years and start dressing to impress. This doesn’t mean you need deep pockets to go buy dozens of outfits.
To help out start with these by doing this:
1-First thing you need to do is go into your closet and start weeding out the really old stuff. Anything your teenage daughter will roll her eyes at, has got to go. Anything that haven’t worn since you were a teenager yourself has to go.
2-Then go back and look at what is left, and remove anything you haven’t worn in the last year. Then start looking at with the color of most of your clothes. You want to go with earth tones – but not head to toe beige. If that is all you got? Its time to add a bit of color.
3-Hardest thing to do is, go through all those clothes that you have put away for way you are going to lose weight and start wearing again. Be honest with yourself, if you are a size 18 now for example, do you really think you will be able to get back into those size 0 jeans again?? If you do get back to that weight, are you going to want to wear jeans from your teenager years?
It’s a lot to do but-
As we age, we don’t want to keep trying competing with the 20-year olds who are wearing neon pinks and blues, oranges. You just make sure it looks elegant and warm, not too drab and not too flashy. You need to dress for your age as well as your body type. As we age we either gain weight or lose weight. Which means, dress for your body shape now.
Once you have gotten rid of pretty much clothes that are too young for you, its time to do something a bit more fun!
Update your accessories. If you’re still wearing clunky plastic jewelry from the 80s, it’s time to invest in an updated look. If you are looking for a good place to buy handcrafted jewelry that is beautiful and timeless? Visit Etsy.com and search for handcrafted jewelry – You would be amazed at what you can find!
Overall updating your fashion can be easier than you thought it might be if you just take a bit of time, look at what you are wearing, clean out your closet and maybe do a bit of shopping to replace what you have gotten rid of and replace when more for your age group. Who said you can’t have a bit of fun after all that cleaning? Retail shopping anyone? 😉 Check out Amazon for Spring clothes for women and you would be surprised at just all the neat clothing available for all age groups!
What you can do is take the clothes that are in good shape and donate them to your local women’s shelter that helps women get back on their feet.
Best way to find one is to Google “non profit women’s shelter” in your area to find a shelter in your area you can donate too. What you are donating not only helps clear out your closet but helps someone else feel better too. Its a win win!
