How Not Taking Care of Yourself Using Self-Care Affects Your Life

How you take care of your own needs affects you and every aspect of your life. For example, if you don’t take care of yourself, you may experience low energy, hopelessness, lack of patience, and even negative physical symptoms like headaches. What’s even worse is that lack of self-care can be so dangerous that it can kill you. You can’t take care of others, if you don’t first, take care of you.

Starting With Diet

If you do not consume healthy meals and snacks, you can suffer from many diseases, such as obesity, malnutrition, lack of energy, and more. Did you know that a poor diet can even cause anxiety problems? Unfortunately, no one online can diagnose the right diet for you. However, a doctor familiar with your history can help you find the best diet for you.

To know which diet is best for you, you need to gather information about your previous diet experiences. Your overall health, values, and goals are also important. Just as being overweight is unhealthy, significantly underweight is also unhealthy.

Each one has a different shape and carries its weight in different areas. You shouldn’t judge a body based on weight alone. It’s about body type, but also about your numbers and how your doctor interprets them.  You can’t go wrong if your doctor would like to perform blood tests and takes into account your experience with current diets and your needs. If you need to go on a diet, make sure it’s something you can do, and willing to keep doing, because you might be doing it for the rest of your life.

Don’t Forget To Exercise

Although diet is more important than exercise, study after study has shown that exercise is essential for cardiovascular health. The surprising thing is that you don’t even need to exercise a lot to benefit from this. You only need to exercise at a moderate pace for 150 minutes per week to maintain or improve your health.

You don’t have to do anything you hate, but doing something every day will go a long way toward helping you be as healthy as possible. If you don’t exercise enough, you will have more body pain, less fitness, and the ability to perform as you do now for longer throughout your life.

Even your tendency to fall and break a bone increases if you don’t exercise regularly in some way. Specially if you are older, and maybe a bit overweight. I found that out the hard way, by mowing my front yard, I fell and broke my wrist in 3 places. I have weaker bones due to my age as well as because I have Osteoporosis. (here is an interesting article about just what is Osteoporosis.) You can take it easy and go for a walk after dinner, or you can do more formal exercises. It’s your decision. If you are with someone, why not have them take walks with you in the afternoon? Or after dinner? That way, you don’t just sit down in from the of the TV or your phone and do nothing.

Mental Health Matters

You are the only one who knows if your thoughts are healthy or not. If you think something is not normal or healthy for you, see a doctor. If you live alone, that can cause your mental health in a not so healthy ways. If you are taking medications, you may need to know if the symptoms are a side effect. When your mental health is the best it can be, you’re more likely to do the self-care things you need to be your best self.

It will affect your life, including your relationships, if you don’t take care of it right away. If you are not take good care of yourself, you’re probably not taking good care of anyone or anything else. Every adult has responsibilities in life, but the first is for himself. Therefore, self-care is not selfish. Taking care of yourself means scheduling time to meet your own needs and making yourself a top priority from time to time. Even if that just means taking a long bath behind a locked door. Taking care of yourself simply means putting your needs where they belong, and that is, before the needs of others. Remember that wants and needs can vary greatly.
