Homeless Black and White Cat Tale – Poem by Kim Snyder

Homeless Black and White Cat Tale – Poem by Kim Snyder

I maybe small but I am free
I sit by your window at night looking in
I think you look for me, to see if I have come
You cannot hold me, I have set the rules
But if you feed me?
I may let you pet me

Wild cats’ roan the area
No one knows where I came from
You can only guess that I was once somebody’s pet
There are others like me, but they are too afraid
I was once like them…

I may be small, but you have to say I am cute!
I know when it rains you worry about me
But on nights of clear skies, I wait
Even as you get ready for bed, I sit by the window looking in
Sometimes I think you must wonder
Do I come for the free food, or do I just miss human touch?
I wish I could tell you, so I rub on your legs
I even mew at the window while I wait for you
I mew before you open the door at night

To get my free food…
Looking for your hand, to give me scratches under my chin
I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
I have decided that you are my house
My free food, my time to be pet
My time to be with you, even just for a few minutes

Is it as good for you as it is for me?
I am small, I was loved once, and I am free
I am just a little black and white cat
Without a true home…
For now, I stay by your house always on the outside looking in
What started out was just for food,
Now over time that has changed
Because even a little black and white homeless cat needs a friend…
And I have pick you to be that friend.

Kim Snyder copyright 4/12/2025 I have lots of cats roam around my area. But I have a few that visit me at night.
